General information about Gryffindors kittens

How to get a Gryffindors Kitten ?!

Do you agree with my breeding concept, are you interested in adopting a Gryffindor kitten and wondering what the next step is?

Here are some words to the general procedure. I receive many inquiries from interested parties who want to " remember " kitten. In general, I do not notice kittens (exception: other breeders who are interested in certain matings), because on the one hand many lovers in many places kitten "remember" and I on the other hand, my homepage up to date with all information about expected kitten or existing litters hold. Mostly at the age of about one week, the kittens get their own page (reach via click on the kitten page eg L-litter) where they are listed individually by gender, "personal photo" and general information. From the age of about 5 weeks the kittens can receive their first visit, since they have moved from their birthplace in my bedroom from the whelping box to the kitten runstall in the living area. However, it does not make much sense for lovers of this age to visit a kitten, as it does not have any vaccine protection , I reject the sales promotion measure, so young kitten to press the prospective in the arms. Even the individual character is only gradually formed, and is certainly better to judge at an age of about 10 weeks. From then on, the kittens can also receive a "real" visit in the sense of a play and petting lesson . Here, too, as a veterinarian, I am a bit burdened by my job; the visitor has to take off his shoes (or put on overshoes, according to taste) and disinfect his hands. For some it seems exaggerated, but there are enough "Kittentouristen", who visit several breeders in one day, and thus represent an ideal source of distribution for all imaginable unwanted souvenirs (viruses / bacteria, etc.). If the chemistry is right (between the two- and four-legged friends, I also reserve the right to cancel a Kittenkäufer if that makes sense to me) can be a contract of sale with down payment closed. I often receive requests from people who "like to look at the cats". I ask for your understanding that due to my job as a veterinarian I only have a very limited free time, and I like to spend it with my cats and use it for relaxation. If I have kittens and they are old enough, serious prospects can look at the potential kitten and parents and get to know me. I am also happy to provide information on cat ownership, race, health, etc. In addition, even after eighteen, I answer all the e-mail inquiries made to me (often by the way also from people who have purchased their cat from someone else) on cat and health issues as far as I can.

My kittens are raised with great care. I attach particular importance to the health care. Thus, the parent animals are regularly tested for the cat virus diseases and are typed blood type. Furthermore, they are tested for hereditary diseases HCM and PKD. The results are given to the new owners as copies . The babies are treated several times with broad-spectrum anthelmintics against worms / giardia (worming passport is given). Unlike most breeders, Gryffindor kittens are fully vaccinated, ie. 2x against the usual diseases such as cat flu / cat disease and additionally already 2x against leukemia, chlamydia and rabies (including EU pet passport). They will be handed over to their new owners from the age of at least 14 weeks . Of course, all kittens bring along a pedigree, and are marked with a microchip transponder. Further contact with the new foster parents is important to me.

All animals receive only high quality feed and vitamin supplements as well as several times a week cooked fish / meat. All kittens bring along a starter set as a set, in which a selection of the usual food / treats are. In addition, the new cat parents receive an information folder about care / attitude of their charges.

The breeding cats enjoy exclusively secured freewheel in a completely fenced outdoor enclosure; Likewise, the windows are cat-secured. Gryffindors cats are not intended for unsecured freewheel !!!

Price question:

All this causes costs and effort. My cat's kids are not for bargain prices. Such a breed cat has its price, depending on whether it is a lover animal (eg with small drawing errors = contractual exclusion of the breeding use) or a breeding and exhibition animal. All animals, both lovers and cats, of course, get a pedigree. The price range for such a breed kitten is generally between 700 € and 1100 €.

Cattitude - remarks about the Kittenkauf for a given occasion

When I get in contact with potential Kitten buyers, they sometimes surprise me with the question of whether they have " Cattitude ". What do I mean by that? I think, a form of understanding cats, which one has learned mostly by education on the part of the predecessor cat (s) already as a holder. The cat is not a small dog, this applies to vets, breeders and even the owners. And the attitude is very wrong. I want a cat, because I do not have enough time for a dog. Cats are no less demanding than dogs, they only have different demands. Back to the topic cat-sense, here for example the general understanding of care is called. It starts with the toilet management: yes it is not enough a cat toilet, especially if you have a large apartment or a house (once bring the toddler, which comes across an urgent need while playing, successfully, that the toilet is two Floors located below it), a cat needs a sufficiently large and high litter box, so that she has it comfortable when entering (about twice the cat's body length in the diagonal), that is not a spinning, but results from their biological behavior. In the open air, she seeks a place with a suitable, loose substrate, where you can bury its remains well. Then she turns around, sniffs the spot, digs a hole, squats over it, does what she has to do, turns around sniffing again and buries her legacy. This behavior is her innate and if one disturbs this chain of behavior, this can lead to uncleanliness. The toilet must be freely accessible at all times, as dust-free as possible, fine-grained (ie "paw-flattering") litter of sufficient depth, it must not stand next to the rumbling washing machine or the dripping shower, and in multi-cat household will not be a bullying trap in which an aggressor in front of it, blocking the only escape route. At least twice a day to remove the lumps, and at least every four weeks a complete cleaning I now just once. There are cats that tolerate quite a hood, although they are known to be no Höhlenpinkler, but I find a swinging door in front of it personally as pure imposition. Just as I feel the ultra-modern cat litter with serpentine-like access roads (if possible still with studded bottom, so they do not carry the cat litter) or constructions reminiscent of spaceships with overhead, small Einschlupflöchern just not cat-fair. Congratulations, if you own such a toilet-proof animal, which allows for such conditions! But there are many others who will leave these complications unclean. Alone on this subject you could write whole novels, and many knowledgeable people have already done so and written informative and amusing books about it. It is also no secret that one does not place the feeding place next to the toilet place (or do you want to have breakfast next to your toilet?) And higher 1 x 1 of the understanding of the cat is that the water bowl has to be at a distance of 3 m from the feeding place - scientific explanation: the cat is a desert animal and has to "search" for its water. Whether it really is the reason is put there, but since many older age cats suffer from kidney and urinary tract problems, there is indeed scientific research into what is involved in stimulating water intake. The spirits are different when it comes to food, in some internet forums one is demonized when feeding commercially prepared food, especially in the form of dry food. I think it's a healthy mix, and feed good quality dry and wet food and meat twice a week, and kittens also get 40% cottage cheese and cat's milk. In any case, after the introduction of kittens, the feeds should first be maintained, and then if you want a conversion after 3-4 weeks acclimation, this should be done slowly (first week 1/3 new food and 2/3 old, then one Week 50% to 50% and in the last week 2/3 new food and 1/3 old) so you can prevent home-made digestive problems the best. I prefer feeding in three meals, if cat would have to feed itself by mice, it would need 6-8 pieces spread over the day, ie she prefers small and fresh portions. Whether dry food is available to working people ad libitum depends a bit on whether the cat is still growing, or already has a Rubens figure. And cats bury leftover food or not eaten, they're not scavengers. And yes, they like to drag their food out of the bowl for consumption from the bowl 2 m away on the carpet. A sufficiently large plastic pad helps. And they do not like too-large bowls into which they have to bend down deeply and knock on the keys, and they like water bowls, where they can see the reason better, because there is a picture on it, for example, but those are subtleties.

In addition, they need a sturdy scratching post that does not wobble or fall over, otherwise the first use could have been the last, and the scraping pleasure is diverted to less tolerant furniture. In addition, he must be so large that the adult cat can stretch out fully, he should also serve as a playground then several floors with hammocks, etc. would be nice and the whole at an interesting vantage point. Resting places, if possible elevated, are important, and those of which the cat has its surroundings in view, but it itself is somewhat hidden, especially in multi-cat household, but also at Hasenfüßen. It is also great, if the cat can use the 3rd space dimension, because she lives in the great outdoors not only down to earth, but for a good reason of climbing powerful. Remember, the cat itself is a miniature carnivore, but in the wild it is also a prey animal, so fight or flight are her in the blood, you have to take that into consideration. A styled, minimalist apartment is not necessarily a cat's paradise. That's why it looks the same in our cat kindergarten. And a few words on the subject of living conditions, families with small children, with a lot of excitement and visit in the house, look for a breeder who lives in similar circumstances. Then the kittens are used to this life right from the beginning and getting used to it is easy. That does not mean that it can not work for our kittens with dogs and older children, especially if they are already cat-tested after a settling in. But here it is rather quiet, that's why I prefer the same cat owner. And I also want to clear a myth out of the world, the idea of the cats interested, their kitten looks for them and jumps on their laps, which comes in my opinion more of a Disney movie. At this age they want action and play, if they play with the visitor and are in their vicinity, I think that's okay. Before further intimacies, the cat's child must first get to know the strangers, and if the previous caregiver is no longer available, the attention is automatically redirected to the new owner. I did not like it as a toddler to be hugged by strangers! And the free selection is unfortunately not possible at a certain age in our breeding, because usually the kittens are forgiven early. If the kitten hides permanently, can not be tempted in the game, then it may well be that it interferes with the smell, the voice, etc. of the person in question, and then it just does not fit, you have to take this into consideration.

The theme of cat-mind could be continued indefinitely, yes, British with thick plush fur hair, by the way, and especially in the spring and autumn, the educability of cats is finite, but you can certainly try (the leap on the full coffee table does not like everyone delight) and punishment is counterproductive. The general situation in the multi-cat house and unwanted behavior are already the higher school of Cattitude, that one does not have to master from the beginning, but one must be prepared to create a basic framework to get involved in the cat as a pet.
